Material Engagement with Volcanic Clays of Tamborine Mountain
This PhD research investigates how Material Engagement Theory (MET) by Lambros Malafouris and my phenomenological approach as a ceramic artist reveal and extend the co-creative capacities of locally sourced volcanic clays and minerals, specifically Tamborine Mountain clays, within my studio practice. The study adopts a practice-led methodology that combines systematic material experimentation, reflective studio practice, and scientific documentation, emphasizing the interplay between control and unpredictability in material behaviours.
